Centrifuge It is a mechanical device that uses centrifugal force to separate the components of mixtures consisting of liquids and solid particles or of two immiscible liquids. Shanghai Luxiangyi Centrifuge Instrument Co., Ltd. is a specialized manufacturer of centrifuges with a long history, strong technical capabilities, and advanced production equipment. Currently, its centrifuge products are exported to more than 30 countries, including the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Thailand, and have earned high praise from customers. The author has learned that Shanghai Luxiangyi’s centrifuge products will play an important role in the production and application of diamond micron powder.
Diamond micron powder refers to diamond particles with a particle size smaller than 60 micrometers. It comes in two types: single-crystal diamond micron powder and polycrystalline diamond micron powder. Diamond micron powder boasts high hardness and excellent wear resistance, making it widely applicable in cutting, grinding, drilling, and other processes. It is an ideal material for grinding and polishing high-hardness materials such as cemented carbides, ceramics, gemstones, and optical glass.
However, compared to coarse-grained powders, diamond micron powder exhibits a significantly larger specific surface area and a greater density of surface functional groups. Consequently, during the production process, the forces of interaction among particles are greatly enhanced. Moreover, as particle size is reduced, the number of defects within the particles themselves decreases, inevitably leading to an increase in their strength. For these reasons, the production of diamond micron powder presents considerable technical challenges. The process is not merely one of particle size reduction; it also involves changes in crystal structure and surface physicochemical properties. The production technology for diamond micron powder is an engineering and technological issue that spans multiple disciplines, including mechanical engineering, powder technology, mechanics, physical chemistry, and modern instrumentation and testing techniques.
Shanghai Luxiangyi has consistently adhered to the quality principle of “Quality First, Reputation Supreme.” It is the only Chinese centrifuge manufacturer that has obtained FDA certification in the United States. The company has also passed ISO9001:2000 quality system certification and CE certification. Its centrifuge products are ideal choices for institutions such as universities, research institutes, biopharmaceutical companies, medical facilities, and petrochemical enterprises. Thanks to its superior quality and advanced technology, Shanghai Luxiangyi will achieve successful application in the production of diamond micron powder. According to Lu Xiangyi’s staff, Lu Xiangyi can customize products according to customer needs.
It is understood that diamond micron powder is produced by crushing and classifying coarse-grained single-crystal diamonds. The most common method for producing diamond micron powder involves using a ball mill to crush diamonds. However, due to its low production efficiency, ball mills have now been largely replaced by air-classifiers. The greatest advantage of air-classifiers is that they are not limited by mechanical linear velocity, allowing them to generate extremely high airflow velocities—particularly supersonic air-classifiers can achieve flow velocities several times the speed of sound. As a result, these machines can generate tremendous kinetic energy, making it relatively easy to produce ultrafine powders in the micrometer and submicrometer ranges. From the perspective of crushing principles, air-classifiers hold great promise for the production of diamond micron powder.
However, particle size classification is a crucial step in the production process of diamond micron powder, and it directly affects both the efficiency and quality of diamond micron powder production. Currently, the combined method of natural sedimentation and centrifugation is the most widely used particle size classification technique for diamond micron powder in China. To enhance the production efficiency and quality of diamond micron powder, all staff members at Shanghai Luxiangyi are working tirelessly. Guided by the corporate spirit of “pragmatism, innovation, dedication, and pursuit of excellence,” we will continue to strive to improve both the efficiency and quality of diamond micron powder production, paving the way for a bright future for this vital product. 。
[ Introduction to Several Types of Diamond Micropowders and Their Applications 】
  1 Polycrystalline diamond micron powder
Polycrystalline diamond is synthesized under the influence of transient, intense shock waves generated by explosions. It consists of micron- and submicron-sized polycrystals composed of nanocrystals. Due to its isotropic nature and lack of cleavage planes, this polycrystalline material exhibits exceptional resistance to impact and high flexural strength. As a result, it not only possesses the extreme hardness characteristic of superhard materials but also boasts the extraordinary high strength and toughness inherent in nanomaterials. These dual advantages give rise to its uniquely superior physical properties, making it highly valuable for applications in both high-tech industries and traditional pillar industries.
Applications: Primarily used in fields such as optical crystals for chips, ultra-precision machining, ultra-fine polishing of large silicon wafers, and surface modification. Spherical polycrystalline diamond micron powder has a gray-black appearance with a slight metallic luster.
  2 Single-Crystal Diamond Micropowder
Single-crystal diamond micron powder features a regular, well-formed hexahedral-octahedral crystal shape. It boasts high strength, excellent toughness, and remarkable thermal stability, with outstanding impact resistance. Its primary applications include the manufacture of electroplated products, grinding wheels, and polishing wheels, as well as the polishing and carving of high-end stone materials, processing of automotive glass, high-end furniture, ceramics, cemented carbides, and magnetic materials.
  3-nanometer diamond micron powder
Nano-sized diamond powders not only possess the intrinsic properties of diamond but also exhibit size-effect phenomena, high specific surface area effects, and quantum-size effects, thereby demonstrating the characteristic properties of nanomaterials. The diamonds synthesized in detonation waves have a cubic crystal structure with a lattice constant of (0.3562 ± 0.0003) nm, a crystal density of 3.1 g/cm³, and a specific surface area ranging from 300 m²/g to 390 m²/g. After undergoing different chemical treatments, various functional groups can be formed on the diamond surface, endowing these diamond crystals with exceptionally high adsorption capacity.
Other applications of nanoscale diamond: A. Formulation of high-grade grinding pastes and polishing liquids for ultra-precise machining of quartz, optical glass, semiconductors, alloys, and metal surfaces. B. Preparation of catalysts: Nanoscale diamonds and amorphous carbon possess large specific surface areas and a variety of surface functional groups, exhibiting high catalytic activity. When used to formulate catalysts, they can significantly enhance catalytic performance and promote the interaction of organic compounds. C. Fabrication of nanocomposite structural materials: By combining nanoscale diamonds with nano-silicon powder, nano-ceramics, and various nano-metals, it is possible to create novel nanocomposite materials. Due to their unique properties, these materials can be used to manufacture semiconductor devices, integrated circuit components, and microcomputer parts.
