Overview:

Centrifuge
Centrifuge It’s nothing new to us—everyday life is full of examples. For instance, when we use a washing machine to wash clothes, we usually need a spin dryer to remove excess water from the garments. A spin dryer is essentially a small-scale centrifuge. A centrifuge works by using mechanical rotation to generate centrifugal force, which then produces the desired effect. In many industries—including pharmaceutical manufacturing, textiles, food processing, and chemical engineering—centrifuges play an enormous role. The centrifuges used in medical applications share some similarities with the spin dryers found in households, yet they also have significant differences. As centrifuges in medical production serve as post-processing equipment, they are employed for a variety of purposes such as dehydration, concentration, separation, clarification, purification, and solid particle classification. Consequently, their process flows are far more complex than those of household spin dryers.
Centrifuges must be used safely and carefully according to proper procedures.
  1. When using various centrifuges, it is essential to precisely balance the centrifuge tubes and their contents on a balance beforehand. The weight difference during balancing must not exceed the range specified in the instruction manual for each centrifuge. Different rotors of each centrifuge have their own allowable weight differences. Under no circumstances should an odd number of tubes be loaded into a rotor. If the rotor is only partially loaded, the tubes must be arranged symmetrically opposite each other within the rotor to ensure that the load is evenly distributed around the rotor’s circumference.
  2. If centrifuging at a temperature below room temperature, the rotor should be placed in a refrigerator or pre-cooled in the rotor chamber of the centrifuge before use.
  3. During the centrifugation process, do not leave your post arbitrarily; you should keep an eye on it at all times. Centrifuge Is the instrument operating normally? If you hear any unusual sounds, immediately stop the machine and perform an inspection to promptly identify and eliminate the fault.
  4. Each rotor has its own maximum allowable speed and cumulative usage limit. When using a rotor, be sure to consult the instruction manual and never exceed the specified speed. Each rotor must have a dedicated usage record documenting its cumulative operating time. If the cumulative usage time exceeds the rotor’s maximum allowed limit, you must reduce the operating speed according to the prescribed guidelines.
  5. When loading the solution, follow the specific operating instructions for each type of centrifuge. Select appropriate centrifuge tubes based on the properties and volume of the liquid to be centrifuged. Some centrifuge tubes do not have lids; therefore, do not overfill them, as this could cause the liquid to splash out during centrifugation, leading to rotor imbalance, rusting, or corrosion. For preparative ultracentrifuge tubes, it is often required to fill them completely to prevent the upper part of the plastic tubes from collapsing and deforming during centrifugation. After each use, carefully inspect the rotor, promptly clean and dry it thoroughly. The rotor is a critical component that requires special protection in the centrifuge. Handle it with care during movement—avoid any collisions or impacts that might cause scratches. If the rotor is not used for an extended period, apply a layer of polishing wax for protection. Never use centrifuge tubes that are significantly deformed, damaged, or aged.
The development of equipment for liquid-liquid, liquid-solid, and liquid-liquid/solid separation in centrifugal force fields has a history spanning over a century. Following the advancement of the nuclear industry, equipment for gas-gas separation emerged. There are numerous branches of equipment that utilize centrifugal force fields to achieve phase separation of materials. One such branch is the solid-phase filtration from suspensions, which was already addressed by various crystallization-filtering centrifuges as early as the 19th century.
We hope that, based on the introduction provided by Shanghai Luxiangyi above, centrifuge buyers now have a better understanding of centrifuges. If you still have any questions, please keep an eye on the Shanghai Luxiangyi website and take a look at the centrifuges previously introduced by our editor. We’ll be sharing more information with you in the future as well. Centrifuge The information.
