Overview:
Some bioactivity assays require that the biological activity of the experimental substance be maintained. However, biological activity is most vigorous at 4°C. To keep the temperature inside the centrifuge chamber at 4°C, it is necessary to use a centrifuge equipped with a refrigeration function.
Generally, when selecting a centrifuge for bioactive cell experiments, there are many different types available; however, the two main categories are high-capacity refrigerated centrifuges and high-speed refrigerated centrifuges. When choosing a specific model, it’s usually necessary to select based on the particular requirements of the experiment.
The following lists the basic configuration requirements for a high-speed refrigerated centrifuge needed for DNA extraction:
Maximum speed: 16,000 rpm
Maximum relative centrifugal force: 17,800 × g
No. 1 conical rotor, 1.5/2.2 ml × 12 (16,000 r/min), RCF: 17,800 × g
No. 2 conical rotor, 1.5/2.2 ml × 24 (13,200 rpm), RCF: 16,110 × g
4-Position Horizontal Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay Rotator, 2×48 Wells (3000 rpm), RCF: 1400×g
No. 5 conical rotor, 10 ml × 12 (12,000 rpm), RCF: 14,300 × g
Speed accuracy: ±50 r/min
Temperature range: -20℃ to +40℃
Temperature control accuracy: ±1.5℃
Compressor: High-performance compressor unit with imported components, using non-fluorinated refrigerant R404a.
Timing range: 0–99 minutes
