Overview:
Centrifuge How does one gradually open the door to the pharmaceutical industry? To begin with, we must note that the applications of these machines are extremely broad. When used in industrial settings, they can generally be referred to as industrial centrifuges. Classified by their structure, they fall into three main types: filter centrifuges, sedimentation centrifuges, and separation centrifuges. Among these, separation centrifuges themselves can be further divided into two subtypes: centrifugal filtration and centrifugal sedimentation. Filter centrifuges and sedimentation centrifuges primarily increase their working surface area along the drum’s circumference by enlarging the drum’s diameter, thereby achieving better separation performance. As for separation centrifuges, in addition to the cylindrical wall of the drum, they also feature an additional working surface, which helps to further expand the effective sedimentation area. Moreover, their performance is closely related to the separation factor. Generally speaking, the higher the separation factor, the faster the separation process and the better the separation results achieved.
Precautions for using a centrifuge:
Currently, electric centrifuges are commonly used in laboratories. Electric centrifuges rotate at high speeds, so safety precautions are essential. In particular, it’s crucial to prevent the centrifuge from moving or even falling off the lab bench during operation due to imbalance or aging of the tube holders. Additionally, if the lid is not properly secured, centrifuge tubes may rupture from vibration, causing glass fragments to spin and fly out, potentially leading to accidents. Therefore, when using a centrifuge, you must pay close attention to the following operational guidelines.
(1) The bottom of the centrifuge tube sleeve must be padded with cotton or a test-tube pad.
(2) If the electric centrifuge makes noise or the machine body vibrates, immediately disconnect the power supply and promptly troubleshoot the issue.
(3) Centrifuge tubes must be placed symmetrically in the rotor to prevent vibration of the machine. If there is only one sample tube, the other tube should be replaced with an equal amount of water.
(4) When starting the centrifuge, you must first close the top cover before slowly starting it up.
(5) After the separation is complete, first turn off the centrifuge. Only after the centrifuge has come to a complete stop may you open the centrifuge lid and remove the sample. Do not use external force to forcibly stop the centrifuge from rotating.
(6) The centrifugation time is generally 1 to 2 minutes; during this period, the experimenter must not leave to attend to other tasks.
The centrifuge is one of the most commonly used basic pieces of equipment and is widely employed in hospital laboratories. It’s an indispensable tool for tasks such as separating serum, precipitating formed cells, concentrating bacteria, and performing PCR tests, among others.
With the rapid development of technology-driven agriculture, various basic infrastructures are continuously being improved. At the same time, societal demands on the centrifuge industry are becoming increasingly stringent. In response to this heightened market positioning, Shanghai Luxiangyi Centrifuge has made corresponding adjustments to expand into emerging markets, thereby opening up greater room for growth in the centrifuge market. Moreover, as consumer demand continues to rise, this has also spurred companies to step up their R&D efforts in centrifuge technology.
