The Qingming Festival, also known as the "Treading Green Festival," falls at the transition between mid-spring and late spring—specifically, 108 days after the winter solstice. It is a traditional Chinese festival and one of the most important ancestral worship festivals, dedicated to honoring ancestors and tending to graves. The traditional Qingming Festival of the Chinese nation likely originated during the Zhou Dynasty and has a history of more than 2,500 years to this day.

The Qingming Festival is regarded alongside the Spring Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival as one of China’s four major traditional festivals. On May 20, 2006, the Qingming Festival—nominated by China’s Ministry of Culture—was approved by the State Council and included in the first batch of the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
