Big News | The portable water quality centrifuge that meets the "Technical Specifications for On-site Pre-treatment of Total Phosphorus in Surface Water" is now being launched ahead of time by Shanghai Luxiangyi!

　　In May 2022, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment released the "Technical Specification for Monitoring Surface Water Environmental Quality," aimed at preventing and controlling ecological and environmental pollution, improving ecological and environmental quality, and standardizing the monitoring of surface water environmental quality. This standard represents a revision of the section on surface water environmental quality monitoring in the "Technical Specification for Monitoring Surface Water and Wastewater" (HJ/T 91—2002). First published in 2002, the original standard was drafted by the China National Environmental Monitoring Center. This is the first revision, and it will take effect on August 1, 2022.

　　The revised version of this standard includes Appendix A, which specifies the on-site pretreatment methods for total phosphorus monitoring in surface water. Regarding instrument and equipment requirements: A.1.1 Portable centrifuge: Maximum rotational speed ≥ 2000 r/min, adjustable centrifugation time ≥ 1 min, and single centrifugation volume of water sample ≥ 1 L. A.1.2 Turbidimeter: Must meet the technical requirements specified in HJ 1075. The turbidity of water quality is categorized into three ranges: <200, 200–500, and >500. When the turbidity of water exceeds 500, centrifugation is required.

　　This standard will be implemented next month. The revision of this standard clarifies the requirements for instruments and equipment, which is of great significance for standardizing the use of such instruments and equipment and ensuring the smooth advancement of surface water environmental quality monitoring.

　　Meanwhile, to promote and improve the construction of a nationwide surface water monitoring technology system and standardize the technical requirements for total phosphorus monitoring in surface waters, the instruments and equipment specified in the “Technical Regulations for On-site Pre-treatment of Total Phosphorus in Surface Waters” will prove highly valuable.

　　A.2 Preprocessing Method

　　A.2.1 Basic Requirements

　　After water samples are collected, the turbidity of the raw water should be measured on-site. If algae accumulation is observed, the sample should be passed through a filter screen (mesh) with a pore size of 63 μm before further processing.

　 A.3 Quality Assurance and Quality Control

　　The turbidity of the raw water was measured three times. The relative deviation among the three measurements shall not exceed 5%. The median value shall be taken as the turbidity of the raw water and recorded.
