In this article, our editor will briefly introduce you to solutions for addressing unstable rotational speed issues that may occur during the operation of a centrifuge. We welcome your attention! During the use of a centrifuge, you might encounter situations where the rotational speed becomes unstable—whether at high or low speeds. For such phenomena, the first step is to identify the root cause of the malfunction and promptly take a series of appropriate measures to ensure the centrifuge operates normally. Generally speaking, the main factors causing unstable centrifuge rotation speeds can be attributed to the following four aspects:
  1. Due to prolonged use, the adjustable resistor installed on the control panel has developed poor contact. This phenomenon is quite common during the operation of centrifuges.
  2. The thyristor may experience breakdown short circuits, open circuits, failure to trigger, or internal poor contact.
  3. One or more of the rectifier diodes have failed.
  4. There is carbon dust between the motor rotor and the commutator, or the carbon brushes themselves are defective.
Having understood the four major factors that cause instability in centrifuge rotational speed, we can then “treat the symptoms accordingly.” Generally speaking, the primary methods for resolving centrifuge speed instability issues are:
  1. First, we can start with the adjustable resistor. Measure the resistance of the adjustable resistor. If the resistance value changes regularly as you adjust it, the potentiometer is functioning properly. Otherwise, the potentiometer is faulty.
  2. When measuring four rectifier diodes, we found that one of them was intermittently working—sometimes good, sometimes bad. This diode is a high-current gold-sealed type; one end is secured to the circuit board with a screw, while the other end is soldered onto the board using wires. Upon removing it from the circuit board, we noticed that the positive and negative terminals were loose. As we measured the diode while gently shaking it, we confirmed that its performance indeed varied unpredictably. Since the model number of this diode was illegible, we installed a diode of the same specification instead. After powering on the device, the motor speed increased rapidly. We assumed that the newly installed diode had broken down. However, upon disassembling and inspecting it, we found that it was perfectly intact and undamaged. Measurements of the other three diodes also showed no abnormalities. Yet, during a comparative measurement, we discovered that the polarity of these two different models of diodes was completely opposite—meaning that at the end where the screw is attached, some diodes had a positive polarity, while others had a negative polarity.
Through the above introduction, Centrifuge manufacturer Please be reminded that during installation, it’s essential to use electronic components of the same model and specifications. After replacing the components with ones of the same model and specifications, power on the machine for a test run, and the centrifuge will resume normal operation.
